The Reception area of a hotel is the first and last point of contact between the hotel staff and the guests. The reception desk is where guests are received to check in and check out. It generally consists of a huge desk with all the accessories required to check in and checkout guests as fast as possible. Some hotels have a single receptionist at the reception desk while busier ones might have a dozen or so. The basic job of the people at the reception desk is to make sure the guests work is done smoothly causing them the least of inconvenience. The person at the reception area serves as your personal aide during your entire stay at the hotel. They are expected to possess exhaustive information about the hotel and the area. They are expected to maintain a pleasant demeanor and charming persona towards their guests. They should also be able to assist the guests to the best of their ability and always strive to provide optimum satisfaction to the customer. They take messages for and on behalf of the guest. They also
provide answers to inquiries about the hotel. They also make
reservations and allocate rooms for the customers over phone or
email or fax. They make sure all the formalities are completed
before the guest can be shown to the room. They have a wide array
of facilities at their disposal that allows them to do their job
well. They have computers to learn with access to the internet and a wealth of
information garnered that allows them to answer almost any
questions ranging from hotel policies to nearby attractions. Hotel
receptionists are specially trained to tackle issues and complaints
from guests. There are special courses in college related to the
Hotel Management Industry that train you to work at the reception
desk of a hotel.
